Installeer het Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF)
Eclipse EMF kunt u installeren via de Eclipse Update Manager.
- Open het menu Help en selecteer de menuoptie Software Updates > Find and Install
- Selecteer in het dialoogscherm Install/Update de optie Search for new features to install
- Klik op de knop Next en u krijgt dan het overzicht van alle reeds geregistreerde update sites.
- Klik op de knop New Remote Site.
- Vul de naam en URL van de update site in en klik op de knop OK.

- Click on the button Next and you will get an overview of all already registered update sites
- Click on the button New Remote Site.
- Enter the name and URL of the update site and click on the button OK.

- Klik op de knop Finish
- Vink in het dialoogscherm Update Site Mirrors de optie Automatically select mirrors aan en klik op de knop OK

- Click on the button Finish
- In the dialog Update Site Mirrors select the option Automatically select mirrors and click on the button OK
In het dialoogscherm Updates vink onderaan de optie Filter features included in other features on the list aan en open de node EMF Update Manager Site. Als u deze optie aanvinkt dan worden alleen de macro-level features getoond en niet al de features die daaronder vallen.
Vink nu de optie EMF SDK aan, in mijn geval versie 2.3.1.
- Klik op de knop Next
- Accepteer de Licentievoorwaarden
Als u vervuiling van uw standaard Eclipse Europa-omgeving wil voorkomen is het aangeraden om de plug-in als een extensie te installeren. Dit houdt in dat u de plug-in opslaat in een eigen map en niet in de standaard mappen van uw Eclipse-omgeving. Op deze manier zorgt u ervoor dat de mappen plugins en features van uw standaard installatie niet vervuild worden met plug-in’s die u aan het bestuderen bent. Daarnaast beperkt deze aanpak eveneens de hoeveelheid disk-ruimte die wordt ingenomen wanneer u over meerdere Eclipse omgevingen beschikt.
De installatiemap van de EMF plug-in’s kunt u aanpassen in het dialoogscherm Install. Selecteer alle plug-in’s en klik op de knop Change Location. Kies nu de map waarin u de plug-in’s wilt installeren. Ik heb een speciale folder “eclipse-extensions” aangemaakt op mijn harde schijf waarin de plug-in’s opgeslagen worden.
- Klik op de knop Finish en dan worden de plug-in’s gedownload van de Update Site
- Klik op de knop Install All in het dialoogscherm Verification.
Nadat de installatie is afgerond wordt Eclipse opnieuw opgestart.
- Open het menu Help en selecteer de menuoptie Software Updates > Find and Install
- Selecteer in het dialoogscherm Install/Update de optie Search for new features to install
- Klik op de knop Next en u krijgt dan het overzicht van alle reeds geregistreerde update sites.
U zult nu zien dat afhankelijk van de versie van Eclipse en reeds geïnstalleerde plugin’s een aantal nieuwe Update Sites zijn toegevoegd:

Voor release 3.3.2:

In the dialog Updates select below the option Filter features included in other features on the list and open the node EMF Update Manager Site. When you select this option Eclipse will only show the macro-level features and not all the features underneath it.
- Click on the button Next
- Accept the License
If you want to prevent your standard Eclipse environment from getting spoiled with plug-in’s then install the plug-in as an extension. Basically this means that each plug-in is stored in its own folder instead of the standard folders of your specific Eclipse environment. In this way you ensure that your standard environment is kept clean when you are investigating new plug-in’s. As a side effect this approach reduces the amount of disk space when you are running many Eclipse environments.
You can indicate in which folder the plug-in should be installed in the dialog Install. Select all the plug-in’s and click on the button Change Location. Now select the folder where you want to install the plug-in’s. I created a special folder “eclipse-extensions” on my hard disk to store plug-in’s.
- Click on the button Finish to download the plug-in’s from the Update Site.
- Click on the button Install All in the dialog Verification.
After the installation is finished you will be asked to restart Eclipse.
- Open the menu Help and select the menuoption Software Updates > Find and Install
- In the dialog Install/Update select the option Search for new features to install
- Click on the button Next and you will get an overview of all already registered update sites
You will now see that depending on the version of Eclipse and what is already installed some Update Sites are added.
